I will always cherish the memories of the BlackBoard Nails playing at the Bank's United Way 2004 celebration. Let Don's smile keep your music alive. I'm sure he would want the group to go on. Take the long way home, Don! Joan Goyette Hi there, First of all I would like to express my deepest sympathy to all of you with the passing of Don. Don was a co-worker of my husband (Luc Bélisle) and I at the Bank of Canada - Corporate Services Department, and we are truly saddened that he won't be around anymore to joke with, or to talk about his passions in life, Jennifer, Sue and his especially his love for music & all of you. He was a very special person, and we'll truly miss him. Through Don we were lucky to have been introduced to your band when you played at the Bank of Canada in October 2004, then when Luc & I went to hear you play at Sonny's. We had a great time hearing your music and getting to meet each of you. During a break that evening, Don sat with Sue, Luc and I, and he told us about his history as a member of the Blackboard Nails. He told us that at one point he purchased a second set of drums to practice even more so that he could achieve a level of professionalism that you would all be proud of. I thought that you would all like to know how proud Don was to be part of the Blackboard Nails and how he truly loved you all. Attached you will find a picture that I took of Jennifer and Don at the Corporate Services children's Christmas party last December 23rd. He was really happy when I asked if he would like it if I took a picture of both of them. They were both giggling and full of love at the time of the photo, and this is how I'll always remember him. When I went to the funeral home last week, I brought a framed copy of the picture to Jennifer as a souvenir, Sue was really happy to see it. Upon her request I e-mailed her a copy of this picture too. I've just visited your website and was very happy to see how well you have paid homage to Don on your website. The eulogy is very touching. DUNPHY, Donald Malcolm Thursday, December 29, 2005 at the age of 47 years. Donald Malcolm Dunphy, beloved husband of Suzanne Pauline Dupuis. Loving father of Jennifer Jessica Noella Dunphy. Cherished son of Donald Murdock and the late Margaret May (MacMillan) Dunphy. Dear brother of James Walker Dunphy and Bonnie Kohler. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 585 Somerset St. (centretown) Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday after 11 a.m. Funeral Service Saturday in the Chapel at 1 p.m.

I had the great fortune to work and interact with him from time to time when we were part of the same team in the Bank. I will never forget how his knowledge on different subjects helped me personally on numerous situations. He will be missed dearly. Bernard Chiu (kanata, ON ) I knew Malcolm all my life, but for me the best times were the last 7 or 8 years in Blackboard Nails where the band spent as much time in conversation as playing music. Over the years we traded countless stories and explored every topic we could think of. My favourite times were shooting the breeze about old times in Granby and getting the dirt on who was doing what now. I genuinely envied his positive and unflappable nature and have tried to model myself after him. For me personally he is irreplaceable and my heart goes out to all who had the good fortune to have known him. Welcome all. To Sue, Jenny, Mr. Dunphy, Jimmy, family and friends, thank you for coming. Donald Malcolm Dunphy - April 2, 1958 - December 29, 2005 47 years of life - it seems like a long time, but it wasn't. It's hard to sum up 40+ years in 5 minutes. Donald, or "Daph" to his friends, will always evoke all kinds of fond memories. Donald loved music and was extremely talented. He could play to any crowd and keep them captivated with a song, piano, guitar, drums, banjo... the list goes on. He loved and doted over his daughter Jenny (the gem of his eye) with the same passion as his music. He made me proud the day he asked me to be his best man at his wedding. Sue, to quote Donald, "the new love in my life." Donald was a little bit of a gypsy. He couldn't make up his mind as to which province he wanted to be in. Quebec, Ontario, Quebec, Ontario, Quebec, Ontario, till he finally lived in Gatineau, Quebec and worked in Ottawa, Ontario. One of Don's earlier jobs was working for peanuts at the Granby Zoo. He so loved being with animals! One of the fringe benefits was that he could get friends in for free! July 1st, in Ottawa will never be the same watching fireworks from the ground as it was when we viewed it from HIGH atop the Bank of Canada. Donald was technically proficient, but get him to walk down the street and he would fall flat on his face. He lived like a rock star and died like one. Unfortunately, some choices are the wrong ones. Some friends are forever and he will always be our friend. Mr. Dunphy - no father should ever have to bury his son. My heart goes out to you.
